September 23, 1815
Center of Great September Gale passed directly north over central New Hampshire; heavy rains and floods mentioned in Vermont press, but no wind damage since Vermont lay in less severe western section of storm.

September 23, 1885
Earliest general heavy snowstorm of record: 8" to 10" reported by weather observers at Randolph and Strafford; more on mountains.
